Police have arrested a 20-year-old man from Gichugu Constituency in Murang’a County on suspicion of raping and killing Githure Primary School headmistress.
The man allegedly committed the crime on Sunday, March 12, at the woman’s home in Githure Village, when she was heading to the bathroom.
The suspect is also being accused of raping another woman, 70, in a nearby village after he went to her house, under pretense of requesting for water to drink.
The victim was taken to Mwea Mission Hospital, where she has since been admitted.
Confirming the incident, Kirinyaga police boss Joseph Nthenge said the suspect was apprehended after he was spotted by pupils at Mbiri Village, who informed the area assistant chief.
The suspect is being held at Kianyaga Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.
