BY RAHMA RASHID IN LAMU COUNTY.
A middle-aged man from Garden area in Amu, Lamu County has been arrested on suspicion of killing his 34-year-old wife.
The woman, identified as Janet Wambua, was allegedly strangled using a steel wire on Monday night after a domestic wrangle.
According to the couple’s neighbour identified as Zablon Wanje, Wambua and her husband, Samuel Muhuri, had earlier partied at an entertainment joint in Lamu.
Wanje says he did not hear the two quarreling after retiring to their house, and was shocked to learn of Wambua’s death on Wednesday, October 10.
Lamu West OCPD, Juma Londo, said that the suspect traveled to his in-laws’ place in Mpeketoni on Wednesday and informed Wambua’s parents that he had “beaten up and injured” their daughter.
The shocked parents alerted police officers, who arrested Muhuri.
The law enforcers later went to the suspect’s house, where they discovered Wambua’s body in the bedroom. The deceased was moved to Mpeketoni Sub-District Hospital mortuary.
Muhuri has been detained at the Mpeketoni Police Station as he waits to be arraigned in court on Friday, October 12.
Investigations to establish the cause of the brutal killing, Londo says, are underway.
