Police in Bomet have arrested a middle-aged man on suspicion of strangling a three-year-old boy and throwing his body in River Amalo.
The incident happened Sunday night, when the boy’s mother was away from home.
Bomet OCPD Samson Rukunga said parts of the boy’s neck had bruises, indicating a possible strangulation by the suspect.
The boy’s mother, Cynthia Chepkemoi, said she went home at 6pm Sunday and found her son was missing.
She, Sunday evening, filed a report at the Mulot Police post that her son had gone missing.
According to residents, the now-deceased had been picked from Chepkemoi’s house at Mulot trading centre by a man, who had been in a “come-we-stay” relationship with Chepkemoi.
The man was last seen on Sunday evening carrying the boy, who wasn’t his biological son, toward River Amalo, where the boy was found murdered.
It is suspected that the middle-aged man killed the boy over disagreements he had with Chepkemoi. According to neighbours, the man had suspected that Chepkemoi was dating several men besides him.
The suspect has since been arrested and is being held at the Bomet Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.
The boy’s body was taken to Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary.
