A 32-year-old man was on Wednesday arraigned in Embu Law Court for injuring a cow belonging to his neighbor at Kavori Mbuvori, Embu North sub-county.
Appearing before Principal Magistrate Samuel Mutai, Solomon Njeru Njagi refused to talk after the charges were read to him.
This prompted the Magistrate to order for the accused to be taken for mental assessment at Embu Level Five Hospital.
The psychiatric report, however, showed that the accused was uncooperative to the doctors who were to examine him.
The doctors thereby asked for more time to carry out another assessment with close family members of the accused present.
Solomon was charged that on May 17, 2018, at Kavari village, Embu County, he willfully and unlawfully wounded Njagi Kamau’s cow with the probable aim of stealing the reported Ksh.20, 000 worth animal.
The Magistrate granted the doctors’ request and ordered the accused to be taken back to Embu Level Five Hospital Psychiatric Clinic for mental assessment accompanied by relatives.
The matter will be mentioned on June 6, 2018.
