Man arraigned for stealing from governor’s wife

An insurance broker has been charged with stealing KSh826, 212 from Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi’s wife, Eunice Wamunyu–Ndathi.

Harrison Chege Kariuki of Online Insurance Brokers and an agent with AIG Insurance Company allegedly stole the said money which had been entrusted to him by the governor’s wife to pay premiums for nine Insurance policy numbers held at AIG Insurance Company, the court heard.

Mr Kariuki allegedly committed the offense on diverse dates between December 14, 2014 and July 28, 2016 at Online Insurance Company, Salama house within Nairobi County.

He was further charged with stealing from another businessman, John Gituku Githuku.

It was alleged that Mr Kariuki stole KSh40, 800 that had been entrusted to him by the said Githuku to pay insurance policy number, held AIG Insurance Company.

He appeared before Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Joyce Gandani and denied the charges.

He was released on a bond of KSh500, 000 with a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of KSh200, 000.

The case will be heard on January 7.
