Two people were killed on Wednesday night for allegedly murdering a bodaboda operator in Thuura location, Meru County.
The two, a man and his lover, were flushed out of a public service vehicle heading to Nanyuki by an irate mob that took the pair to Gakoromone Market where they beat the lovers to death and set their bodies on fire Wednesday 9pm.
The couple is suspected to be part of a three member gang that killed Denis Mukuna, a bodaboda operator, in Meru town and made away with his motorcycle Tuesday, May 24.
Wilson Kirimi, Bodaboda Riders Chairman in Gakoromone, says the death of the youthful couple should serve as a lesson to thieves who rob bodaboda operators of their motorcycles.
Mr Kirimi’s sentiments were echoed by Moses Kinoti – another bodaboda operator in the area.
Residents said the late Mukuna’s body had deep cuts in the back of his head; they believe the injuries were inflicted by a crude weapon that the mob retrieved from the couple.
Police have urged members of the public to be vigilant and report robbery incidents to authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.
Bodies of the youthful couple were taken to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
