A middle-aged man is on the run after he allegedly shot dead a 19-year-old man for secretly seeing his 26-year-old wife.
The fatal shooting happened on Tuesday, May 7 at Ngilai Village in Samburu North Sub-County.
Area chief William Leleruk said the suspect, identified only as Learote, who is well-known to the residents, fled after committing the crime.
Eye witnesses say they saw Learote shooting the teenager at a grazing field, where he [victim] was shepherding his family’s livestock.
“Before he died, the boy said it was the suspect who shot him,” said Chief Leleruk.
According to neighbours, the teenager had been spotted publicly on several occasions with the suspect’s wife.
One of the neighbours said Learote vowed to kill the teenager, then his wife and eventually himself over the infidelity suspicions.
The suspect reportedly approached elders earlier Tuesday and asked them to summon the boy to explain why he was engaging in an illicit affair with his wife. His request, however, wasn’t granted immediately.
Learote’s wife has since fled her matrimonial home, and is currently putting up at her parents’ home.
The slain teenager’s body was taken to Samburu County Referral Hospital mortuary in Maralal Town.
It remains unknown how and when Learote acquired the firearm which he allegedly used in the fatal attack.
Investigations into the incident have begun, with police saying they are looking for the suspect whose whereabouts remain unknown.
