Uganda’s Makerere University has suspended Dr. Edward Kisuze, a senior administrative assistant in the academic registrar’s office over sexual harassment, New Vision reports.
Kisuze was this week exposed by a Kenyan female student [name withheld], who took pictures while the don was performing oral sex on her in his office. The pictures have since been shared widely on social media.
Following the revelation, Prof. William Bazeyo, the acting University vice-chancellor, asked Kisuze to submit a written report by April 17, on the allegations against him.
Kisuze was suspended on half pay pending investigations. Kisuze was also asked to hand over all university property to the academic registrar.
“I hereby suspend you from University Service with immediate effect to allow a smooth Investigation into the matter,” reads a letter to Kisuze.
He has also been advised to desist from accessing the Senate building or interacting with Makerere University students until investigations are completed.
Makerere University spokesperson, Ritah Namisango, said the lecturer has since been arrested and is being held at Wandegeya Police Station in Kampala, the New Vision reports.
In March, 2018, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe suspended Dr. Swizen Kyomuhendo, a lecturer in the department of social work and social administration, over the same allegations.
