BY ROBERT MAINA IN NAKURU COUNTY.
A 42-year-old man from Tapare Village in Elburgon, Nakuru County on Saturday brutally killed his neighbour’s wife before committing suicide.
Nelson Makori fatally slashed 26-year-old Careen Chepkurui in the head using a ‘panga’ in what authorities suspect was triggered by love gone sour.
Chepkurui’s husband, Julius Soi, who was working at a nearby ‘shamba’, heard her screaming in agony on Saturday, and when he rushed home, he found her lying in a pool of blood.
Soi – on his way home – had met Makori, who was carrying a blood-stained ‘panga’, but did not suspect that Makori had used it to kill his wife.
Makori went to his home and threatened to wipe out his family.
His wife, Irene Makori, and children escaped to a nearby potato farm, when they saw the suspect wielding a blood-stained machete.
Makori, thereafter, committed suicide by slitting his throat.
Elburgon Assistant County Commissioner Naftali Korir confirmed the incident.
Ndoswa Location chief, Jonah Komen, says a text message was retrieved from the late Chepkurui’s phone, revealing that she and Makori had differed a few hours to the incident.
Bodies of Makori and Chepkurui were moved to the Elburgon Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
