Administrators at Ebulonga Sub-Location in Emuhaya Constituency in Vihiga County are investigating claims that bachelors in the region are sexually harassing their widowed mothers.

Ebulonga assistant chief Refa Moses says she has received complaints from villagers who claim that there is a clique of men who commit the heinous act on their mothers.

Ms Moses recalls a recent incident when a 45-year-old single man allegedly broke into his 65-year-old mother’s room at night and solicited for sex from the distraught woman.

Villagers say – on several occasions at night – they heard the woman, a widow, screaming for help after the man forcefully gained entry into her room.

Ms Moses says the suspect claimed that he demolished his own house and sold his property so that he could raise seed money to establish his business.

He thereafter returned to his parents’ house where he has allegedly been sexually harassing his mother.

Ms Moses has urged parents to build separate houses for their children who have reached puberty and are conscious of their sexuality.

She further urges parents to teach their children moral values, saying the heartbreaking incidents that are currently witnessed in Vihiga are as a result of improper upbringing.

According to the Luhya community, who are the majority in Vihiga County, it is a taboo for a man to sleep with his mother.
