Two students at Kizingitini High School in Lamu County are recuperating at Faza Hospital after their fight turned tragic on Tuesday.
The learners, who are deemed to be perennial foes, had quarreled over reasons yet to be established.
One of the students, who had a knife, brandished it and cut his colleague in the head, before the victim retaliated by hitting his aggressor on the head using a log.
The two were, however, separated before the fight turned uglier.
According to Kizingitini High School principal, Isaac Kanyo, the fight played out in front of the students’ teacher.
The students were ordered to go home and return with their parents.
“Just after stepping out of the school compound, they resumed their fight, which ended in both of them sustaining injuries on the head. They were, nonetheless, rescued before the wrangle got messier,” said Mr Kanyo.
It is suspected the two students, who hail from rivaling communities in Lamu, differed on ethnic lines.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
