Kleptomaniax legend Nyashinski reveals why he abandoned the Kenyan music industry

Do you remember when Amani teamed up with Nyashinski for runaway hit Bad boy?

Yes, those were the good old days!

Well after deserting the music scene the bad boy of Kenyan rap is back and better than ever.

After teasing fans with the Let It Go collabo with Nameless in February, the former Kleptomaniax rapper has unleashed a solo track dubbed Now You Know.

Tackling fans’ questions about his abrupt exit from the music scene, Nyashinski hit the nail on the head with the Beat Ya Keggah production.

“Watu wakiuliza ule boy wetu alienda wapi? Alipotea kama zile mbegu watu walipanda na Kanyari!” he starts.

The much loved rapper appreciates fans for their love and their concern, explaining that he was busy pursuing other interests as music is a hobby for him.

Naulizwa mbona niliacha mziki

Ati nilikua mkali juu ya mic na namisiwa na mashabiki

Niliacha game mapema, hata kabla ref haja piga firimbi

Bila kwaheri, ati walistukia kuwa kuna Klepto mmoja haimbi

Samahani nipempotea, shukrani kwa wale wamenifikiria

In the same breath, he hits out at the duplicity of fans, asking if they would actually support his music if he was still in the industry. He points out that most music pioneers are often disparaged and called washed up by the same fans who backed their music.

Oh, and if you thought you could dismiss him because he is an old school emcee, think again. Nyashinski hits out at the new crop or rappers saying that despite his hiatus, he can still best anyone of them on the mic.

Ambia newcomer asijifeel sana

Sijarap kitu ka ’06 hivi

Trust me siwezi rust mimi

Hata niache mziki miaka hamsini

Nikirudi bado nitawacrush nyinyi

My take? This is one of the best tracks I have heard this year. The lyrical mastery I grew up loving paired with Keggah’s killer beats.
