The eighth wife of Swaziland’s King Mswati III has committed suicide.
According to Mpumalanga News, Senteni Masango was found dead early Friday morning having overdosed on about 40 amitriptyline capsules.
Amitriptyline is medicine used to treat mental illnesses.
Masango’s death comes a week after the burial of her sister, Nombuso Masango, which media outlets in the country claim King Mswati barred her from attending.
Masanga leaves behind two children from her 18-year marriage to the king; a man Swaziland media outlets report has not visited her home in three years.
The royal family spokesperson, Indvuna Lusendvo had previously announced that she would be laid to rest on Sunday April 8 in accordance with the Royal Swazi rites.
A vigil was held in her honorat the Swazi Royal Kraal in Lobamba on Saturday night.
