Kenyan HipHop maestro Kennedy Ombima – popularly known as ‘King Kaka’ – on Friday made a surprise proposal to his long-time girlfriend Nana Owiti live on stage during the ‘Eastlando Royalty’ album launch.
King Kaka invited Nana Owiti, who is also the mother of two of his children (Gweth and Iroma), on stage during his ‘Ni wewe tu’ performance with Kenyan soul songstress Atemi Oyungu.
He then asked Atemi to perform one of her popular hit love songs, Bebi Bebi, during which he recounted how far along he has come with Nana before getting down on one knee and dishing out an engagement ring.
“Will you be Mrs. Ombima?” He posed, to which the soft-spoken beauty responded with a resounding “Yes” and a warm hug and a kiss followed thereafter, to cheers from the excited crowd.
The much anticipated launch of the star’s fifth studio album was marred with a lot of highlights including when he invited out his mother and her friend for a moment on stage and the three said a word of prayer.
King Kaka also included short video sets of his alter ego, Rabbit, in a bid to show how far he has come as an artist in the industry; from wearing woolen caps and bottom-shelf jeans to donning top of the range suits and brushing shoulders with the ‘who is who’ of the music industry world over.
He was joined by fellow industry heavyweights such as Steph Kapela, Pascal Tokodi, Man Njoro, Brian Nadra and FemiOne on stage at various points in the performance.
Kaka Empire’s newest signee – Bridget Blue – also shared the stage with King Kaka before Kristoff and Magix Enga joined in to crown it with their popular hit Dundaing. Kaka Empire Deejays Will, Leqs and J.R kept the crowd on their feet all night.
Among some of the songs in the album include Royalty (featuring American comedian Tracy Morgan), Dodoma 3 (featuring H_art The Band), Sinema (featuring Pascal Tokodi), Regula (featuring American HipHop legend Talib Kweli), Lullaby (featuring Likoni School for the Blind) among others.
