A middle-aged man from Michatha Village hanged himself on Monday, December 19, under unclear circumstances.
Simon Njung’e, who was a Fourth Year Bachelor of Information Technology student at Kenyatta University, took his own life inside his house in Michatha Village.
Confirming the incident, area Chief Jackson Njoroge said that Njung’e gained entry into his house through the window, before tying a rope to the rafters and hanging himself.
One of the residents, Rosalinde Wamaitha, described the deceased as an industrious young man.
It has not yet been established why Njung’e ended his life, though it is reported he had threatened severally to commit suicide.
Relatives said that Njung’e, who was recovering from alcohol addiction, had shown no signs of depression.
Police arrived at the scene and took his body to Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
Turi ward MCA Michael Wang’ombe urged the youth to speak out when they are faced with life challenges.
