Congolese musician ‪Koffi Olomide has been deported to Kinshasa, DR Congo Saturday morning, his lawyer has confirmed.

Olomide was flown to the DR Congo’s capital via Kenya Airways after he assaulted one of his female dancers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Friday morning.

Kenyans – in their thousands – took to social media to vociferously voice their displeasure at Koffi Olomide’s airport conduct.

And in the same numbers yet again, they have returned to social media to express mixed reactions at the lingala artiste’s deportation.

D’angote Arap Madanga: Kudos Uhuru for your leadership. Koffi Olomide should know that this is Kenya.

Reegan Owira: Koffi should know in Kenya we don’t joke. Kenyan law applied to both foreigners and common mwananchi.

Mariot Ketter: I now feel relieved, our women should be respected. There’s no space for a man who mistreats a woman in this era. Women too have rights.

Kibet Kipkosgei: I think we tend to believe that what we have done is stupid, it isn’t! Lines must be drawn, people should behave anywhere they land. Koffi might have been full of himself, too proud to misbehave. Thank you for the deportation.

Some online users however have come to the defense of the deported Congolese musician, saying he took responsibility for his actions, hence he should not have been deported – let alone being judged harshly.

Jessica Chai: But that’s quite unfair. Why was he judged so harshly yet he apologised? That’s hypocrisy, there so many cases here in Kenya that are never dealt with.

Sammy Mwangi: As much as I don’t agree with what he did, I think it was kind of too harsh for him, the guy apologised like ten times. We are not perfect either.

Other social media users are worried for Pamela – the female dancer who Koffi assaulted at the JKIA.

Nancy Joy: Have you guys thought of what will happen to the lady back in Congo?

Amos Adongo: That dancer may lose a well-paying job that has cost her boss a lucrative deal in Kenya. Koffi needs to rethink his strategy on hiring and handling indiscipline amongst his employees. That marketing effort has just gone up in smoke.

Koffi Olomide baffled many when he descended on Pamela with kicks after he touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Friday morning.

Koffi is said to have been irritated by one of the dancers who fell out with his lover Cindy Le Couer.

Cindy, a Congolese female singer with an impressive vocal range, started dating Koffi Olomide, her boss, in 2012.

In an interview on Citizen Television Friday night, the Selfie hit-maker denied he assaulted Pamela. Instead, he says he was defending her and other dancers from an alleged pick pocket.

Koffi Olomide was slated to perform at Bomas of Kenya on Saturday, July 23.
