The body of a 35-year-old Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) preacher from Kyethivo Sub-location in Machakos County was on Wednesday morning (October 17) discovered decomposing in a church, with local residents suspecting the pastor committed suicide.
Residents suspect that the preacher strangled himself on Sunday, October 14 – the last day he was seen publicly.
A foul smell emanating from the church early Wednesday prompted residents to access the church, making the shocking discovery.
The preacher’s body was found hanging from a rope tied to the church rafters.
Confirming the incident, Muthetheni Location chief, Raphael Mutua, said the pastor’s mobile phone and identity card was found at the scene.
Police attached to Masii post moved his body to the Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary.
Elsewhere in Migori County, police have launched investigations into the death of Rangeny Holy Ghost Church Bishop Samwel Owino, who collapsed and died while fellowshipping in the House of God on Tuesday, October 16.
Owino was singing, dancing and beating the drum during a church service, when he fell to the floor and died.
The bishop’s brother, Michael Owino, said efforts by members of the church to resuscitate him bore no fruits.
The cause of the preacher’s death is yet to be established. His body was moved to Migori Level 4 Hospital mortuary.
