KCSE candidate gives birth minutes to exam

A 20-year-old woman from Ndia in Kirinyaga County on Thursday, November 15 gave birth one hour to sitting a KCSE test.

Lillian Wanjira, a student at Gacharu Day Mixed Secondary School, gave birth to a baby boy at Sagana Sub-County Hospital at 7:30am.

She had been rushed to the health facility – which is one kilometer from where she stays – by her sister-in-law at 7am.

The lead medic in charge of Sagana Sub-County Hospital, Dr Peter Olyam, said arrangements were made by Gacharu Secondary School and KCSE invigilators to ensure Wanjira was able to write the exam, which began at 8:30am.

“We are happy that she decided to carry the pregnancy to term, instead of aborting it,” said her brother Mbogo Mwaniki.
