KCSE candidate dies while giving birth

A Form Four student at Kakimba Mixed Secondary School in Suba North Sub-County, Homa Bay County died Monday morning (November 19) while giving birth.

Faith Atieno Ouko, who is writing this year’s KCSE exams, went into labor Sunday night, and was rushed to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she developed complications during delivery hours later.

Confirming the incident, Homa Bay County Police Commander, Marius Tum, said Kakimba School principal Josea Alusa informed him about the girl’s death early Monday.

Atieno’s body was moved to the hospital’s mortuary.

Since the start of this year’s KCSE, three candidates have died in Homa Bay County.

On November 12, a student at Atemo Mixed Secondary School in Rachuonyo East died after he collapsed while playing football with his classmates.

On Sunday, November 18, 17-year-old Javan Onyango, a student at DC Mixed Secondary School in Rangwe Constituency, died while undergoing treatment at the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.

Onyango was rushed to the health facility after he was accidentally kicked in the stomach by his colleague, when they were playing football after writing Friday papers.
