Citizen Television news anchor Kanze Dena on April 1 fooled Kenyans online that she was engaged. Ms Dena made the ‘revelation’ on Instagram and Facebook.
Accompanying her post with a photograph showing her wearing a silver ring on her engagement finger, Ms Dena wrote: “Thank you Lord. It is a new season, new beginnings. Umenifuta machozi, umeuliwaza moyo wangu. Ndagukunda #NewSeason #ChoseToBeHappy.”
Her prank was so good that her co-news anchor and best friend, Lulu Hassan, fell for it. Leading the pack, Ms Hassan congratulated Ms Dena on her life progress.
Others, who also congratulated Kanze Dena on her ‘engagement’ include: Citizen TV reporters Francis Gachuri, Fayzah Maganga, among others.
Kenyans, in their hundreds, took to her social media timeline to congratulate her, with one lady saying: “I am very happy for you, my role model. All the best in your new life.”
Ms Dena, a mother of one, has since pulled down her Fools’ Day post.
She, at 12:40pm on April 1, clarified that her earlier posts on Facebook and Instagram were a prank.
“Time to come clean. Thank you all for the congratulatory messages and prayers… from your mouths to God’s ears… My partners in Crime, asanteni! @loulou_hassan. Iko siku moja tu… iko siku… iko siku moja tu…. Niba niba nibarikiwe. Happy April Fools’ Day #HappyWithSelf #AprilFoolsPrank,” she wrote.
