The Kenya Film Commission has postponed 2020 Kalasha awards following a confirmation of Kenya’s first coronavirus case.

Kalasha was set to go down between April 1 to April 3 in a three-day trade fair showcasing filming activities and interactions through conferences and workshops.

In a press release set out to the media, the commission said a later date will be announced for the fête upon the expiry of an existing embargo on all events involving international participants.

Further, the commission said the move had been informed by the need to deter the spread of the global pandemic.

On Friday, the Ministry of Health announced that a Kenyan who had returned from the United States had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The 27-year-old woman is currently in isolation at the Kenyatta National Hospital amid fears of a possible spread.
