Jubilee politician denies stealing money from bank

A Jubilee Party politician from Watamu in Malindi, Kilifi County has denied defrauding Diamond Trust Bank of Ksh5 million.

Ibrahim Abdi Matumbo, who was arraigned in a Malindi court on Tuesday, August 14 also faces other fraud-related charges totaling Ksh25 million.

Matumbo, who is a former Watamu Ward representative, denied all the charges before Malindi Chief Magistrate Julie Oseko.

The court heard that on October 16, 2015, the accused used fraudulent means to acquire four luxurious houses owned by Moorgate Investments Limited. The fraudulent transaction allegedly took place at a Malindi hotel.

Matumbo, who is affiliated to Jubilee Party, faces eight counts of fraud, including forgery of home and property ownership documents.

Matumbo denied that he stole Ksh5 million from Diamond Trust Bank, Malindi branch.

The suspect allegedly withdrew money from the facility’s account number 01586655001, which belongs to Moorgate Investment Limited.

Other monies he allegedly obtained by false pretenses and fraudulent means during that period include Ksh7.95 million and Ksh7 million belonging to Moorgate Investment Limited.

Matumbo has been released on a cash bail of Ksh500, 000 or a bond of Ksh800, 000 and a surety of a similar amount.

The case will be heard on November 22, 2018.
