A middle-aged woman, who hails from Khasoko Village in Bumula, Bungoma County is recuperating at Kakamega Level Five Hospital after her ex-husband allegedly doused her in acid on Wednesday.
Eunice Akinyi’s current husband, Valentine Makaka, says Akinyi was doused in acid by her ex-husband when she was returning home from a Kakamega school, where she had dropped her curriculum vitae.
Akinyi’s family members say they only recognise Makaka as her lawful husband, and that they were heartbroken by the acid attack.
Police are pursuing the suspect.
Akinyi and Makaka broke up four years ago, when she was two months pregnant with their first child.
Akinyi, thereafter, returned to her parents’ home in Bungoma. Her relatives say she, later, fell in love with Makaka.
According to Kakamega Level Five Hospital lead nurse, Bilha Atemba, Akinyi sustained 40 per cent burns on her body.
“We’re glad she is responding well to treatment,” said Atemba.
