Citizen TV journalist Jeff Koinange has revealed that he occupied a New York hotel room, which had been allocated to Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia after the minister failed to travel to the US on October 28, when KQ launched its direct flight from Kenya to the American nation.
The CS, who was to board the KQ plane to the US, was asked by President Uhuru Kenyatta to accompany him to China, thus prompting him [Mr Macharia] to forego the New York trip.
The Kenyan VIP accommodation organisers consequently allocated CS Macharia’s room at the Intercontinental Hotel in New York to Mr Koinange.
“The hotel room, which had been allocated to CS Macharia was on the 36th floor of the building, and still there were several floors above me. When I was checking into the hotel room, you’d hear the receptionists say welcome Mr Ma-ka-ra-ya [Corrupted pronunciation of Mr Macharia based on first language (English) influence],” said Mr Koinange on “The Hot Breakfast” show on Hot 96 FM Monday, November 5.
Mr Koinange was a part of the 234 passengers, who flew on the inaugural Nairobi-New York direct flight on October 28.
He returned to Kenya last weekend.
