A German organization has gifted Jackline Mwende, the woman from Machakos County whose hands were allegedly chopped off by her husband in August last year, with a four bedroom house, a solar panel and a water tank.
The house, located in Utithini Village in Mwala Sub County, was donated to Ms Mwende by Merck More than a Mother organization on Monday, February 20.
It is Taita Taveta Women Representative, Joyce Lay, who had lobbied the organization to come to Ms Mwende’s rescue. The organization thereafter offered to build her the house on her father’s farm.
The German organization also gifted Jackline Mwende a fully-stocked shop in Masii Town.
Machakos Women Representative, Dr Susan Musyoka, and Ms Lay were present at Masii Town, where the goodies were officially handed to Ms Mwende.
James Kasaiya, Masii youth leader, praised the – commendable – gesture by Merck More than a Mother organization, saying it will go a long way in helping Ms Mwende fend for herself.
Jackline Mwende got prosthetic limbs in October last year after the tragic ordeal that befell her in August.
Jackline got the new hands fitted by the Korea Prosthetics Laboratory specialists in Seoul South Korea, funded by electronics manufacturer L.G.
The artificial limbs use electronic motors and are battery powered. They have been put in place using suction technology and have maximum suspension.
