State House digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has apologised for sharing images showing Deputy President’s wife, Rachel Ruto, donating OMO detergent to starving Turkana residents.
Mr Itumbi shared the controversial pictures on Wednesday, March 20, as emotions swirled on social media regarding the dire drought situation in Turkana and Baringo counties.
“A donation by Mama Rachel Ruto in aid of fellow Kenyans facing hunger in Turkana and Baringo drought,” tweeted Mr Itumbi, attaching pictures of Mrs Ruto donating OMO.
It later emerged that the pictures shared by Mr Itumbi were retrieved from Rachel Ruto’s 2014 Twitter post.
I apologize for images I shared here earlier.
Mama Rachel Ruto was not in Turkana
I relied on unverified images.
This was my mistake and I am sorry.
I have since deleted them.
May the record reflect the true position and my apology too.

“I apologise for images I shared here earlier. Mama Rachel Ruto was not in Turkana I relied on unverified images. This was my mistake and I am sorry. I have since deleted them. May the record reflect the true position and my apology too,” tweeted Mr Itumbi at 8:50pm Wednesday.
The former blogger’s apology drew mixed reactions online, with a bulk of the comments criticising him for being a “State puppet, who blindly tries to paint those in leadership, especially from the Jubilee wing, as caring and concerned people, even when they ‘are not’.”
Kenyans had earlier Wednesday subjected both Mrs Ruto and Mr Itumbi to ridicule, saying they would “do anything to get attention”.
Mrs Ruto, however, kept off the online drama, instead, updating her 85, 000 Twitter followers that she had attended a prayer event at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
“I was so blessed to fellowship and pray. Prayer is indeed the way to go!” said Mrs Ruto on Twitter Wednesday.
