‘I only fear God and hot porridge,’ Waititu says, denies millions allegedly in daughter’s account

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has now rubbished widespread allegations that he used his daughter’s bank account to embezzle county funds.

Speaking during a church funds drive at Makutano center in Trans Nzoia County on Sunday, Waititu further stated – albeit on a light note – that he fears only two things in life; God and steaming hot porridge.

“Wanadanganyana huko Facebook eti wasichana wangu wako na accounts na iko na mamilioni na ni uongo… wanasema eti niko na account hamsini na hiyo yote ni uwongo,” he said

(“They are lying on Facebook that my daughters have millions in their accounts but that is a lie… they’re saying I have over 50 bank accounts, but all those are lies.”)

“Siwezi kulazimishwa kumfuata yoyote… kwa sababu mimi namwogopa Mungu na uji moto peke yake kwa hii maisha.”

(“I cannot be forced to follow anybody… because I only fear God and hot porridge in this life.”)

The embattled Kiambu County chief further blamed his recent run-ins with the law on a section of the political class not impressed with his newfound closeness with and support for Deputy President William Ruto.

Waititu was on Thursday last week arrested following an early morning raid on his homes in Runda, Garden Estate and Kiambu by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
