A Second Year Kisii University student was on Thursday evening killed by her boyfriend at the students’ hostel in Kisii town after an argument ensued between the two.
It is alleged that that the man strangled his partner aged 20.
Police say the murder was provoked by a love triangle gone wrong.
Confirming the incident, Kisii police boss, Francis Nguli, said the spurned lover would later fatally hung himself on a rope tied to the rafter.
Nguli says investigation into the incident has been launched.
According to the deputy president of Kisii University Students Governing Council, Francis Kerongo, the man, a boda boda operator in Kisii town, left behind a suicide note, saying he killed his lover, a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) student, “because she had betrayed him”.
The suicide note seen by eDaily read: “Mum, dad, brothers and sisters, I killed her and myself because I loved her with the whole of my heart, but she just made me do it. I am sorry. Bye. Mum, I love you.”
Kerongo urged property developers erecting hostels in Kisii town to ensure that there is adequate security provided to occupants, who are predominantly university and college students.
“It is a sad day for Kisii University students because our colleague lost her life in circumstances that we do not understand. I urge the youth to, always, resolve relationship disputes amicably, instead of resorting to violence,” said Kerongo.
The bodies of the two lovers were taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
