Celebrated Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is currently trending on Nigerian interwebs following her revelation that her husband, Captain Matthew Ekeinde, goes to the market on her behalf.

In a recent interview on Nigerian media, Omotola described her husband as a “strong man” who understands her “status”.

“Let me tell you something more, my husband is actually the one who goes to the market. I don’t go to the market because I can’t. Because of my status, I can’t,” insisted Omotola.

Omotola says Mr Ekeinde, despite being the family head, finds no harm in serving her.

“But my husband didn’t say you know traditionally, a man is not supposed to go to the market, ‘I’m not gonna go, no’ my husband actually goes to the market,” she added.

Omotola recalled an experience that resulted in the transferring of responsibility between her and her husband.

“In my earlier career, I used to go with him but I’d stay in the car. But then, one time we went to Tejuosho (market) and someone found out I was in the car.”

“It became a major security risk, so he said don’t ever go with me again. He goes and he has fun and he comes back home and I do the cooking, so you see we strengthen each other,” said Omotola.

Her confession spawned a myriad of social media reactions in Nigeria with users differing in opinion over Mr Ekeinde’s ‘fun’ habit.

Omotola married pilot Captain Matthew Ekeinde in 1996 when she was 18. The couple later held a white ceremony aboard a Dash 7 aircraft while flying from Lagos to Benin in 2001, with close family and friends present.

The couple is blessed with four children.
