Rongo Member of Parliament (MP) Otieno Dalmas has sought the forgiveness of Catholic Church following destruction of Rakwaro Catholic Church by goons, which occurred ahead of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations last month.
Dalmas had been linked to the late April attack that left three people injured and the church property destroyed.
The MP, who will defend his seat as an independent candidate on August 8; after losing to rival Paul Abuor in the ODM primaries, spoke during his home-coming party on Tuesday, May 30.
Dalmas promised to renovate the destroyed church property, urging the Catholic Church and the constituents of Rongo Constituency to forgive him over actions committed by his supporters.
Dalmas Otieno called out ODM Party leader, Raila Odinga, for urging voters to elect an all-ODM outfit, saying that the electorate has the freedom to choose their representatives in different elective seats.
“The call for six piece voting failed spectacularly in 2013 general election. I don’t think it will work on August 8. The ODM party leadership should only drum up support for Raila Odinga’s bid for President and let the constituents decide on the other elective positions,” said Dalmas.
The legislator said some ODM candidates should expect to be floored by candidates from other political parties, and even independent candidates, in the general election.
Dalmas Otieno further stated he will not support any candidate for a lower or higher elective seat to his, with an exception to the presidency, saying: “everyone should hunt for votes by themselves”.
