A strong wind blew off the roofs of several restaurants selling fish in Busia Market, forcing customers to flee, with many, who were yet to pay for the meals they had ordered, taking advantage of the situation to leave the eateries without parting with money.

“At least 120 customers ran away with our money. Several utensils, including plates, bowls and trays broke after the strong wind blew off the roofs of our stalls,” said a restaurant operator in Busia Market.

Busia fish traders’ association chairperson, Francis Aketch, said the strong winds occurred abruptly Saturday afternoon, causing extensive damage to property in the market.

Aketch has urged Busia County Government to repair destroyed restaurants in the market as they [traders] wait for a new market to be built.
