How I was nearly stripped in Thika – Former ‘Busted’ host Ciku Muiruri

Former Classic 105 FM radio presenter Ciku Muiruri has recounted how she was nearly stripped at a Thika bus stage several years ago.

The former “Busted” host says the group of men wanted to take her clothes because she was wearing a miniskirt.

Speaking on K24’s “Talk Central” show hosted by Kalekye Mumo on Thursday, November 29, Ciku Muiruri termed the experience as “scary”.

“It was way back in the day at the Thika bus stage. You know these ‘mathree’ guys… I did not have dreadlocks at the time. I was wearing this skirt whose length was above the knee, and they [matatu crew members] just started following me, a whole bunch of guys, and the crowd kept getting bigger and bigger. They were definitely going to take my clothes off had this woman not stopped to help,” Ciku Muiruri told Kalekye.

“I was scared, but I understood mob mentality at the time; people minding their own business until they see there is a guy brave enough to follow you, and then the other one joins, and the other one joins, and the other one joins. People just need someone to lead them – into wrong or into right. That is why I feel that I am very optimistic about our country. All in all, what happened to me can happen; it can happen,” said Ms Ciku Muiruri.

The former “Pulse” magazine editor also addressed claims that she was fired from Classic 105 FM after she allegedly fell out with the firm’s management over her work ethic.

“I still work for Radio Africa as a writer. My relationship with the media house is one which has never ended. We are still dating,” she said.

“In terms of radio, I was done! At that point, I was done! I was… I have always felt like… You know when I had the first break from Kiss FM, and then into print, which was really nice – that was a 2-year break –, and then I went back into radio – refreshed and enjoying it – that worked for me; that is the kind of a person that I am. I need my batteries recharged. I can’t do the same thing every day; that is monotony.”

Ciku Muiruri also refuted allegations that – after leaving Classic 105 FM –, she started a consultancy firm, which focused on advising cheating men on how to go about their philandering activities without being caught by their partners.

“I did not start such a consultancy firm. Who are the people who wrote that? Yes, I started a consultancy business, but it wasn’t for cheating spouses. It was a communications consultancy firm; I did some work for Jubilee Party in the run-up to 2013 general election; I have done some work for Nakumatt as well… I have been working,” she said.

Ciku Muiruri was famed for her show titled “Busted” which aired on Classic 105 FM.

On the show, people who suspected their spouses of cheating would call Ms Muriru live on air, and ask her to bust their unfaithful husbands or wives.
