A 22-year-old man from Kathangariri Village in Embu North Sub-County was on Wednesday, November 21, arraigned in Embu Law Courts for allegedly raping a mentally ill woman.
Andrew Munene Njogu denied the allegations before Chief Magistrate Maxwell Gicheru.
The court heard that on October 15, 2018, at around 1pm, at Kathangariri Village, the suspect intentionally and unlawfully penetrated the mentally ill woman by inserting his genital organs into the genitals of the victim without her consent.
The court heard that Munene was aware that the victim was mentally-challenged.
The accused was working at home on the said date, when the victim walked past his compound.
The court heard that Munene lured the girl to a nearby bush, where he raped her.
Curious passersby, who heard commotion emanating from the thicket, busted Munene in the act. They, consequently, raised an alarm, prompting Munene to escape.
The suspect was later arrested.
Munene was released on Ksh200, 000 bond with a surety of similar amount.
The case will be heard on January 4, 2019.
