Police in Mumias have arrested two men on suspicion of attempting to kill a critically ill man, who had been admitted at St. Mary’s Mumias Hospital.
It is alleged that the patient was admitted to the health facility on Wednesday, October 18 after he was hacked using a panga by unknown people in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Speculations are rife that the suspects were involved in the brutal attack and they feared the patient would identify them after recovery.
Health staff at St. Mary’s Mumias Hospital told eDaily that the suspects’ plan failed, when the patient screamed for help, when the two men were strangling him.
It remains unclear how the suspects gained entry into the hospital ward.
The suspects attempted to escape from the scene, but were cornered before they could vanish. The two were handed over to the police.
Confirming the incident, Mumias OCPD Peter Kattam said an investigation has been launched to establish whether the suspects are part of a gang which has been terrorising Mumias residents.
“Once done with the investigations, we shall arraign the two in court for attempted murder,” said Kattam.
