Gospel singer Betty Bayo has opened up for the first time on national television about her unfading love for estranged husband ‘Prophet’ Victor Kanyari.
In an interview on NTV’s The Trend Show on Friday, May 20, Betty said: despite going separate ways with the controversial man of the cloth, she still has feelings for him.
Social media users who were following the programme posed this question to Betty: “Do you still love Victor Kanyari?”
She responded on the affirmative: “Yes, I do. Love does not fade in a day, and true love is patient.”
In 2014, KTN investigative duo Mohammed Ali and John-Allan Namu unearthed fake miracles that were performed by Pastor Victor Kanyari at his church in Nairobi.
Until the airing of the expose, many did not know that Betty Bayo was Victor Kanyari’s wife.
Following backlash from the expose, Ms Bayo stated that she had no knowledge of the staged miracles, adding that she thereafter separated from Kanyari.
It later emerged that Betty was expectant.
In an interview with Nairobian early January, 2016 Kanyari denied being responsible for Betty Bayo’s pregnancy. Betty Bayo gave birth late December, 2015.
And on Friday when NTV’s Larry Madowo sought clarity on the paternity of the singer’s child, she brushed speculations off, urging her fans to pay close attention to her music and not personal life.
Betty chose to remain mum when she was asked if she is still married to ‘Prophet’ Kanyari.
“Stories do go around and you cannot address everybody, so sometimes it is good to keep your life just like that; people do not know Betty as talking about her life; the way I am, let me handle it. People should concentrate more on my music (sic).” she said.
The Ngai Ti Mundu hit-maker appreciates support she has received from fans and family through the difficult time she went through when her marriage with Kanyari hit rock-bottom.
She says her life has picked up afresh – and there’s no looking back. Betty Bayo, nonetheless, maintains she will continue praying for her estranged husband.
On to matters music, Betty promises she’ll release an album before the year ends.
