A 14-year-old girl from Nandi County went into labor on Tuesday morning as she was preparing to sit for KCPE exams, Nandi Hills Sub-County Deputy Director of Education Kipruto Kosgey confirmed.
The girl, who developed contractions at dawn, was rushed to Nandi Hills County Referral hospital, where she gave birth to a baby boy, and thereafter sat for the first paper of the 2017 KCPE exam.
Kipruto, who visited the teenager in hospital, said she will have to sit for the rest of the 2017 KCPE exams in hospital.
“Following the birth process, the pupil developed a sitting problem which will force her sit for her exams in hospital,” said Kipruto.
Nandi East Sub County Commissioner Mbogai Rioba warned men against impregnating underage girls.
Mbogai noted that several girls in the Sub-County between the ages of 14 and 16 are expectant.
