Police in Keringet, Nakuru County have arrested a couple for beating their daughter to death over allegations that she was accompanying men at night during traditional circumcision ceremonies.
Confirming the incident, Keringet Location Chief Nicholas Kering said Bernard Langat and Tabitha Langat fatally beat their daughter, a Standard Two pupil at Bararget Primary School, after suspecting she had spent Thursday night with boys at an initiation ceremony in the neighbourhood.
“Our daughter’s behaviour was giving us sleepless nights and we were just trying to correct her by caning her. Unfortunately, she sustained injuries and while rushing her to Olenguruone Hospital, she died,” the deceased’s mother Tabitha Langat told the police.
Administrator Kering said angry locals, led by Nyumba Kumi officials, reported the incident and seized the girl’s father hiding in a maize plantation.
Police recovered blood-stained Jerry can and clothes at Langat’s home.
The couple will remain in police custody until a post mortem examination on the deceased is done. Thereafter, charges will be filed against the suspects.
