Friends’ swimming session ends tragically after Kabianga varsity student dies


A First Year student at Kabianga University in Belgut, Kericho County died on Sunday after drowning in River Chemosit, which is near the institution.

Alex Mandera, a Bachelor of Education student, died while swimming.

Mr Mandera was with his three friends, when the incident happened.

According to the deceased’s pals, Mr Mandera was overwhelmed the moment he swam into the deep end of the river.

Efforts to rescue him were fruitless.

The varsity student’s body has been moved to Kericho County Referral Hospital.

Kabianga University communications officer, Nicholas Langat, confirmed news about Mr Mandera’s death.

Mr Langat cautioned students against swimming in the river, which has resulted in the death of three Kabianga students thus far.
