A 34-year-old Form Four student from Ikuu Village in Igembe South Sub-County in Meru County died after he was allegedly stabbed by his wife on Friday, November 17.
Ruban Mithika Barungu, who is a father of two, was allegedly killed by his wife, Jane Njeri, after a domestic wrangle ensued between them, said area Assistant Chief Simon Mutua.
The deceased was a student at Karumaru Day Secondary School.
Chief Mutua said Barungu did not pursue secondary education after sitting for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) 17 years ago.
He, however, decided to enroll for secondary education four years ago, a move, which was vehemently opposed by his wife, who argued “there was no need for Barungu to further his education”.
According to Chief Mutua, Barungu, who was a personal assistant to a Meru County MCA, was using a larger part of his income to fund his education, which left little disposable income for his family to use. His wife was not happy with that, hence constant domestic wrangles, said Chief Mutua.
According to Barungu’s neighbour, Rodgers Munene, Barungu’s wife stabbed him five times in the stomach after a quarrel ensued between them. Barungu died on the spot. His body was moved to Maua Methodist Hospital mortuary.
Police are looking for the suspect, who remains at large.
