A Form Four student at Githurai Mixed Secondary School in Mwihoko, Kiambu County was shot dead in cold blood,Friday evening by unknown gunmen.
The 16-year-old, Edward Mwaura, who was on break from school, had visited a friend in the neighbourhood.
Mwaura was fatally shot few meters away from home after he reportedly ran into the robbers who had camped at a nearby Mpesa kiosk.
Reports claim that the teenager had earphones on and he could not listen to alarm being raised by neighbours.
The victim’s father says he heard screams of a robbery in progress- and when he rushed to the scene, he saw a person lying in a pool of blood with a shirt resembling that of his son’s.
Mwaura died when he was being rushed to a health facility in Thika. His body was taken to Kenyatta University Funeral Home for preservation.
Police have launched investigations into the murder.
Mwihoko residents had earlier raised concern over increased crime in the area. They have since appealed to the local administration to beef up security to in Githurai.
