A Form Three student at Macumo Day Secondary School in Embu County has been arrested after he ‘went berserk’ Friday and slashed the institution’s lab technician in the head.
It is alleged the student was targeting the school’s head teacher, but was prevented from attacking him [head teacher] by the lab technician and other teachers, resulting in the injury-inflicting scuffle.
So physically powerful was the aggressor that some Form Four students present at the scene had to gang up and wrestle the violent student away.
The student cut the lab technician, Anthony Njuki, in the head using a panga. Besides injuries inflicted to the head, Njuki suffered a broken arm. He was rushed to hospital, where he is recuperating.
It is not yet known where the learner got the panga from.
It is also yet to be established why the student targeted the school’s head teacher.
Embu County Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Chairman, Dickson Mbarire, said besides Njuki, the violent student attacked two of his schoolmates.
Mbarire says the assaulted students were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Njuki had been admitted.
One of the students sustained a fracture in his left arm.
The aggressor has since been arrested and is being held at an Embu police post.
