A bar attendant in Rongo, Migori County has been arrested after a female Form Two student was found raped in a lodging within the bar.
The student, who studies at a school in Migori County, had gone home on May 20 to seek the services of an optician.
According to the 14-year-old girl’s mother, her daughter left for school on May 21, but she [daughter] did not call to tell her that she had arrived safely.
Later that day, the girl called her mother and told her that she woke up in a lodging in Rongo Sub-County, which is nearly 40 kilometers from a bus stage, where she had met her alleged defiler.
The girl said she met a middle-aged man at a Migori bus stage as she waited to board a vehicle to school.
According to the minor, the suspect engaged her in a conversation, telling how he knew her family members and how close he was to her relatives.
The girl further claimed during their conversation, she became unconscious, only to wake up in a lodging tens of kilometers from their meeting point. It is suspected the teenager was drugged.
It remains unclear how the girl was transported from Migori Town to Rongo.
The girl’s mother said she evaluated the room, where the girl was booked in, and found blood-stained bedsheets, suggesting her daughter was defiled.
The victim’s mother now wants the bar owner and attendants interrogated on why they allowed a school girl in uniform access to their facility.
Rongo OCPD Peter Kirui says they have arrested an attendant at Centre Inn bar to help in investigations.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains at large.
