A Tanzanian footballer has tragically died after he collided with another player on pitch accident, Global Publishers reports.
The player, identified as Ismail Mrisho Khalfan who played for Mbao FC – Under 20 in Tanzania’s Bukoba region, on Sunday evening collided with an opponent playing for Mwadui FC, a football club based in Shinyanga Province.
The fateful match was the last one in the group stage of the Ligi ya Vijana competition.
Before meeting his death, Ismail had scored two goals against Mwadui FC in a match that ended 2-0.
Ismail fell to the ground after colliding with a Mwadui FC defender. He rose, but fell to the ground again. Due to lack of necessary first aid and emergency facilities like an ambulance at the Kaitaba Stadium, Ismail’s life stood a higher risk of being lost.
He was rushed to Bukoba Regional Government Hospital in a fire fighting vehicle. Sadly, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the health facility.
Doctors at Bukoba Hospital are yet to release an official report on the cause of Ismail’s death.
Ismail’s body will be transported to his rural home in Mwanza for burial on Monday, December 5.
