Five University of Nairobi first year students were on Wednesday, May 25 arraigned in court and charged with being in possession of bhang.
According to the prosecution, the five – Abdullakim Luqnalhakiym, Charles Kimotho, Ambetsa Chris, Janet Mukami and Mary Kyalo – got admitted into the university Lower Kabete campus early May.
It is alleged that the five on May 24, 2016 were playing loud music in a room that led to complaints by other students who involved security officers’ intervention.
Police intercepted 297 rolls of bhang in the room after conducting an impromptu search.
The accused however denied the charge before Nairobi principal magistrate Joyce Gandani who released them on KSh10, 000 cash bail.
The case will be mentioned in two weeks time.
University of Nairobi prohibits the illegal use or selling of illicit drugs in its premises by all employees and students.
