Fight between wife inheritors in Migori turns near fatal

A middle-aged man was on Monday, October 10, hospitalized in critical condition at Tenwek Hospital after he was hacked by another man following a scuffle which ensued over a widow in Bungo Sub Location, Nyatike Sub County in Migori County.

The fight between the two men, who are alleged to be potential inheritors of the widow, took place Sunday night when they met at the woman’s house.

According to area Chief George Odongo, one of the men identified as Tobias Okoth was already in the house of the widow when another namely Ames Ondari, who had traveled from Kisii,  arrived with bananas among other goodies. It is then that a scuffle ensued.

The administrator said Okoth who was armed with a panga among other crude weapons hacked Ondari severally before escaping to an unknown destination.

The chief said the victim, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to Karungu Sub District Hospital but was referred to Tenwek Hospital in Bomet County for advanced treatment Monday.

Mr. Odongo said the two rivaling men had been visiting the woman without either of them having knowledge of the other.

Chief Odongo said investigations have been launched into the matter.
