A Third Year Bachelor of Science (Communication and Public Relations) student at University of Kabianga in Kericho County committed suicide by hanging herself over reasons yet to be established.
Hellen Nyambura, 22, is suspected to have killed herself on Saturday, September 16 and her body was discovered at her house in Chemyogaa trading center in Belgut Constituency on Wednesday, September 20 after a smell of a decomposing body emanated from the single room residence.
When the police broke the door and accessed Nyambura’s house, they found her body hanging on a manila rope from the roof rafter.
Confirming the incident, Kericho West OCPD, Gerald Mbae, said it is highly suspected Nyambura killed herself on Saturday, September 16, the last day her neighbours saw her.
“Nyambura’s neighbours reported that a smell of a decomposing body was emanating from her house, and that flies were many in her house, which had been locked from the inside. Police broke her door to gain entry into the house, where they found her hanging on a manila rope tied to the roof,” said Mbae.
Mbae says they are yet to establish the cause of Nyambura’s suicidal ideation, given she did not leave behind a suicide note.
“No one had any information on what could have led to Nyambura’s death. We have launched an investigation to establish what led to Nyambura’s suicidal ideation,” said Mbae.
Nyambura’s body was taken to Kericho County Hospital mortuary.
Nyambura had, last year, deferred from school, a move which saw her delay the completion of her studies by one year.
Nyambura hailed from Njoro in Nakuru County.
