A man who posed as an official translator at an international conference in Addis Ababa has been arrested after deliberately shaming his own countrymen. The suspect, identified as 32‑year‑old Kenyan Kelvin Omondi, was hired to interpret for a Kenyan business delegation. Instead, he changed the meaning of their speeches – telling the audience that the Kenyan delegates had ”no business sense” and ”only came for free lunch”. A leaked video shows Omondi smirking as he misinterprets serious investment pitches. Ethiopian police caught him at Bole Airport trying to flee. ”I was just joking,” Omondi claimed. He now faces fraud charges and a possible ban from all UN‑affiliated events. Kenya’s embassy has issued a formal apology.
