“Fake mother” paid KSh50 for her services arrested in Meru

A middle-aged woman was arrested on Tuesday, July 19 at Mwerongundu Day Secondary School in Igembe North, Meru County for impersonating a student’s parent.

The woman had been paid KSh50 by a female student to pretend she was the mother of the girl who had been sent home for failing to report to school for a whole week.

Details emerged that the girl, a day-scholar, had been donning her school uniform every day, but would take different routes to unknown destination(s).

Mwerongundu Day Secondary School principal had her suspicions about the woman who represented the student before the disciplinary committee.

The principal decided to call the girl’s biological mother who denied having knowledge of her daughter’s truancy.

The school head thus reported the woman to Antuambui Location Chief Romano Muchiri who was shocked when he received the news, saying he had never come across such a case during his administration.

Mr Muchiri observed that such impersonators can be used to commit crime and other detrimental actions.

The “fake mother” was arrested and taken to Laare Police Station as she waited to be arraigned in court.
