Residents of Kamongo estate in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County are in disbelief following an incident of a 21-year-old woman who set herself on fire Tuesday, August 23 after learning her long-time boyfriend had an extra-marital affair.
Pamela Musati was reportedly pregnant when she set her self on fire.
According to her neighbor, Mercy Cheruiyot, the lady had a heated argument with her spouse, Kibe Martin – an estate volleyball coach – for having an affair with one of his team players.
“Pamela told me that Kibe (her boyfriend) must be in love with her friend and teammate promising that she would ask him in public,” Cheruiyot said.
Tragedy ensued when the agitated woman reportedly took out her stove, poured kerosene on herself before kindling fire as her neighbours watched.
“She just came out of her house very upset. I tried to control her as she turned abusive, loud and out of control,” Cheruiyot narrated. “We finally put out the fire even though she sustained serious burns.”
Ms Musati was taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
Eldoret East police boss, Nelson Taliti, called on Kenyans to employ dialogue in conflict resolution.
