Two suspected gangsters were on Thursday afternoon killed after an exchange of gunfire ensued between them and police officers in Kehancha, Kuria sub-county, Migori County.
The fire exchange, which lasted several minutes, left one of the police officers attached to Kehancha post injured. The officer was rushed to hospital and is in a stable condition.
Migori County police commandant Joseph Nthenge said the police officers trailed and gunned down the suspects, who had allegedly hatched a plan to rob a businessman in Kehancha town.
Nthenge says police were acting on a tip-off from Kehancha residents.
Nthenge says the suspected gangsters, upon realising they were being trailed by the police, began shooting at the officers, who responded by firing back.
Nthenge said the police recovered a fire from the two suspected thugs.
Nthenge has appealed to the locals to continue working closely with the police by giving necessary information that would help the police fight cases of robbery, among other crimes in the region.
He affirms that the police are well prepared to avert cases of robbery, cattle rustling among others, which have been rampant in the region.
